Scorchit Raw

One-Knob Vocal Saturation

"Drive any signal with warm analog saturation whose vocal formant character opens up as you push it — HQ-oversampled and auto-leveled, so you get singing harmonic heat with no volume spikes."

WHAT IT DOES

One knob. Turn it up and your signal gets hotter, with a vocal, formant-like character that opens up as it drives. Scorchit Raw is the free, one-knob version of Scorchit — all the tone-shaping happens under the hood, so there's nothing to set up. Just grab the knob and add heat.

Scorchit Raw drives your signal with warm analog saturation — the same formant-linked engine from the full Scorchit, running at HQ oversampling behind one knob. It adds singing harmonic heat and vocal-like character to flat vocals, leads, and synths. The output is auto-leveled, so you hear the tone bloom, not just volume.

THE SCORCH KNOB

SCORCH is a single macro that controls drive intensity — and as it climbs, the vocal formant character opens up with it. At low settings you get gentle, warm saturation. Push it and the formant filter bank glides open, revealing a singing, vowel-like color on top of the heat. Automatic gain compensation keeps the output level-matched at every position, so your A/B comparison is honest.

UNDER THE HOOD

Warm saturation (oversampled) — a tanh soft-clip saturation stage runs inside HQ 8× oversampling for clean, anti-aliased harmonics, with drive scaling the input into the clipper as the macro opens.

Parallel vocal-formant filter bank — a 5-band bandpass bank (base frequencies 800 / 1200 / 2500 / 3500 / 4500 Hz) runs in parallel with the saturated signal, its bands shifting with a formant-link glide tied to the drive to produce the singing, vowel-like colour; a matched all-pass network keeps any dry blend phase-aligned.

Auto-gain (high-passed matching) — makeup gain is measured on the high-passed mids and tops of the pre- and post-engine signal, so it holds the level without re-inflating the low end and keeps perceived loudness steady across the sweep.

Constant latency — the oversampler is pinned to HQ and the plugin always reports the maximum HQ latency, so the reported plugin-delay compensation never changes mid-stream.

Safety chain — a 5 Hz DC blocker after saturation preserves headroom, and a gentle tanh soft-clip near 0 dBFS backed by a final NaN/Inf and hard-limit pass catches overs at the output.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is Scorchit Raw free?

Yes. Scorchit Raw is completely free — freeware, no trial, no nag screens, no expiration.

What does the SCORCH knob do?

SCORCH is a macro that drives warm analog saturation while opening up its vocal formant character as you push it. It runs HQ-oversampled with automatic gain compensation, so you get singing harmonic heat with no volume spikes.

What makes Scorchit's saturation different?

Drive and vocal character are linked. As you push the SCORCH knob, the formant filter bank glides open, adding a singing, vowel-like quality on top of the harmonic heat — the signature move of the full Scorchit.

How is Scorchit Raw different from Scorchit (Pro)?

Scorchit Raw gives you the formant-linked saturation behind a single SCORCH knob with auto gain. The full Scorchit adds four saturation modes, a 5-band formant filter bank, a vowel-lock system, formant entropy (Melt), envelope modulation, tone shaping, and 15 factory presets.

Does Scorchit Raw support Apple Silicon?

Yes. Scorchit Raw is a Universal Binary that runs natively on Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4) and Intel Macs.

Do I need the Pro version of Scorchit?

No. Scorchit Raw is a complete, free, fully working plugin — the whole formant-linked saturation engine driven by one SCORCH knob, level-matched and HQ-oversampled. The full Scorchit just adds more control: four saturation modes, the 5-band formant filter bank, a vowel-lock system, formant entropy (Melt), envelope modulation, tone shaping, and 15 factory presets.
