SCORCHIT

Saturation that reshapes the voice. Scorchit fuses four saturation modes with a five-band formant filter bank, so driving harder makes a vocal sound deeper or chirpier — without touching its pitch. Drop in any audio clip and its amplitude envelope pumps the drive for rhythmic, breathing saturation.

FEATURES

Formant-Linked Saturation

Drive (0–100%) and Character (-100% to +100%) are coupled — as drive increases, the formant bank shifts in the Character direction
Formant Link (0–100%) sets how much drive modulates character
Four saturation modes — Warm (tanh), Grit (asymmetric), Tape (tanh + rolloff), Tube (even-harmonic injection)
Oversampling — Standard (4x) and HQ (8x) with static latency reporting for gapless mode switching

5-Band Formant Filter Bank

Five parallel bandpass filters modeling vocal formant resonances, all shifting together with Character, Link, and Envelope
Resonance (Q 1–20) — higher Q for synthetic/robotic, lower for natural/biological
Formant Mix (0–100%) — blend between dry post-saturation and the formant-filtered signal
Phase-aligned dry path via a matched all-pass chain to eliminate cancellation artifacts at partial Mix

Vowel Lock & Melt

Vowel Lock — Character snaps to five phonetic vowel positions (U, O, A, E, I) with per-vowel gain compensation
Slew-smoothed F1/F2 targets for click-free transitions between vowel states
Melt (0–100%) — formant entropy adds slow, organic frequency drift for the instability of a real vocal tract
Independent L/R drift states create subtle stereo movement

Envelope Modulation

Drop a sample (kick, loop, vocal) onto the sidechain display to modulate Drive with its amplitude envelope
Env Mod depth (0–100%), Attack (0.1–50ms), Release (10–500ms), and Invert for breathing effects
Looping, normalized sample playback with drag-and-drop support for WAV, AIFF, MP3, FLAC

Output & Workflow

Auto-Gain — RMS-matched compensation keeps perceived volume consistent regardless of Drive
Tone EQ (±12 dB high-shelf), full-range dry/wet Mix, and output trim (-24 dB to +6 dB)
Real-time formant display visualizing the 5-band response, plus a vertical drive meter
15 factory presets, A/B comparison, Randomize, Link Lock, Character Flip, and save/load

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is Scorchit free?

No. Scorchit is a paid plugin — a one-time purchase with no subscription. Once you own it, it's yours: no trial limits, no watermark, no feature gates. If you want a free taste of the sound, grab Scorchit Raw, the one-knob junior version.

What makes Scorchit different from a normal saturator?

Drive and vocal character are linked. As you push the drive harder, a five-band formant filter bank shifts with it — so a voice sounds deeper or chirpier without ever changing its pitch. The Formant Link control sets exactly how tightly drive and character are coupled.

What are the saturation modes?

Four: Warm (smooth tanh soft clip), Grit (asymmetric hard clip with odd and even harmonics), Tape (tanh with high-frequency rolloff), and Tube (second-harmonic emphasis). Each pairs with the formant bank so the drive character and the vocal character move together.

What is Vowel Lock and Melt?

Vowel Lock snaps the Character control to five phonetic vowel positions (U, O, A, E, I) for a talk-box feel, with per-vowel gain compensation. Melt adds slow, organic formant drift — the subtle instability of a real vocal tract — for movement that never sounds static.

Can I modulate the drive with my own audio?

Yes. Drag any sample — a kick, a loop, a vocal chop — onto the sidechain display and its amplitude envelope modulates the Drive. With adjustable Attack, Release, and Invert, you get rhythmic, breathing, or ducking saturation. Supports WAV, AIFF, MP3, and FLAC.

Does Scorchit support Apple Silicon?

Yes. Scorchit is a Universal Binary that runs natively on Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4) and Intel Macs, in AU, VST3, and Standalone formats.
