Gaugex

Loudness Meter & Level Manager

"Know exactly how loud your mix is — and whether it's ready for release."

Gaugex is a loudness meter for your master bus. It measures LUFS, true peak, dynamic range, and stereo image against ITU-R BS.1770-4 / EBU R128, then tells you at a glance whether your track hits the target for Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and more. It listens transparently by default — your signal passes straight through untouched.

FEATURES

Loudness Metering

Integrated LUFS — gated integrated loudness with an on-target check and platform target selector (Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Club/DJ, Broadcast, Custom)
Momentary & short-term — 400 ms and 3 s sliding-window loudness
LRA / loudness range — how dynamic your material is, at a glance
RMS & PLR / crest factor — average level and peak-to-loudness headroom
True peak (dBTP) — 4x oversampled inter-sample peak detection

Phase & Spectrum

Phase correlation — mono-compatibility and low-end phase (SUB CANCEL) so your bass survives the club and mono playback
Low-end energy sentinel — flags problem energy building up in the sub
Spectrum analyzer — real-time frequency view of your mix

Level Management

Target selector — dial in Spotify -14, Apple Music -16, YouTube -13, Club/DJ -6, Broadcast -23, or a Custom LUFS goal, with a pass/fail check and a Gain-to-Target readout showing exactly how many dB to move
Gain trim — optional in-place level adjust from -24 to +24 dB (off / neutral by default), for honest level-matched comparison
Match button — one click auto-sets the gain trim to hit your chosen target based on the integrated LUFS reading
A/B comparison — store and recall two gain / platform / target setups so you can flip between them instantly
ISP Ceiling & Sub Lift — opt-in -1 dBTP true-peak ceiling for safe delivery, plus a subtle 150 Hz low-shelf (±6 dB) for quick low-end checks
Loudness history graph — scrolling view of your loudness over time as it walks toward the target
Mastering log / CSV export — save a snapshot of every metric for your session notes and delivery

Workflow

15 built-in target/mastering presets (Streaming Ready, Apple Music Master, YouTube Master, Broadcast, Club Dominance, and more) to jump straight to the right platform target
Save & load your own presets — export and recall your setups as .gaugexpreset files
Low-end energy readout — ratio of low-frequency energy to total, for checking bass balance
Transparent by default — the signal passes straight through untouched until you opt into a level tool

Under the Hood

ITU-R BS.1770-4 / EBU R128 compliant — K-weighting, gated integration, and 4x-oversampled true peak
Analyzer-first — metering runs on a copy of your signal; level trim is transparent and never colours the tone
Fire Head mascot — the signature needle glows brighter as your headroom (PLR) stays healthy and heats up when you're pushing into danger
Universal Binary — native on Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4) and Intel

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

  • OS macOS 15.0 (Sequoia) or later
  • Architecture Apple Silicon + Intel (Universal Binary)

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is Gaugex free?

Yes. Gaugex is completely free to download and use under a proprietary freeware license. No trial, no watermark, no feature limits.

What does Gaugex measure?

Gaugex is a full metering suite: integrated LUFS, LRA (loudness range), RMS, PLR/crest factor, true peak, phase correlation with mono-compatibility and low-end phase, a low-end energy sentinel, and a spectrum analyzer — all built on ITU-R BS.1770-4 / EBU R128.

Can Gaugex match my master to a streaming target?

Yes. Pick a platform target (Spotify -14, Apple Music -16, YouTube -13, Club/DJ -6, Broadcast -23, or Custom) and Gaugex gives you a pass/fail check plus a Gain-to-Target readout showing exactly how many dB to move. An optional gain trim lets you level-match takes for an honest comparison, and the loudness history graph shows your loudness walk toward the goal.

How is Gaugex different from Gaugex Raw?

Gaugex Raw is the free single-readout meter — integrated LUFS versus a target, plus three secondary readouts. The full Gaugex adds LRA, RMS, PLR/crest, phase correlation and mono-compat, the spectrum analyzer, the loudness history graph, optional gain trim, mastering log/CSV export, and 15 factory presets.

Does Gaugex change my audio?

Gaugex is primarily an analyzer. Metering runs on a copy of your signal, and the level-management gain trim is an honest, transparent trim for matching — it never colours the tone.

Does Gaugex support Apple Silicon?

Yes. Gaugex is a Universal Binary that runs natively on Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4) and Intel Macs.
