Spectral Engine

Freeze System

◆Auto-Freeze threshold — engages freeze when input drops below level, with hysteresis to prevent chatter

◆Decay — the frozen spectrum gradually fades for controlled ambient tails

◆Drift — slowly evolves frozen spectra so they stay alive rather than static

◆Hann-windowed overlap-add engine at 75% overlap for smooth, artifact-free spectral reconstruction

◆Independent phase and magnitude paths keep texture and transient blurring separate, with latency reported to the host

◆Smoothed parameters avoid zipper noise, and a short preset crossfade prevents clicks when switching

◆Cloud Head mascot — an animated character that bobs to Drift, scales with your audio, tilts, pulses on freeze, and reveals a morph-linked halo as captures cross-fade

What does Vaporate actually do?

Vaporate is an FFT spectral processor. It smears phase across frequency bins to blur transients into smooth texture, and it can freeze spectral magnitudes to hold any moment as an infinite ambient pad — turning vocals, drums, and synths into everything from subtle softening to endless atmosphere.

What is Freeze?

Freeze captures the current spectrum and holds it indefinitely as a sustained pad. There's a momentary Freeze Hold for live performance, plus an Auto-Freeze that engages automatically when the input drops below a threshold. Add Decay for controlled fade-outs and Drift so the frozen texture keeps evolving instead of sitting static.

What are the capture slots?

Vaporate has 4 capture slots for saving spectral snapshots and recalling them on the fly. Switching between captures morphs smoothly between the stored magnitudes, so you can crossfade between textures without clicks.

Can I use my own samples?

Yes. Drag and drop WAV, AIFF, MP3, FLAC, or OGG files onto the waveform zone to run them through the FFT engine as source material, instead of live input. Vaporate ships with 22 factory presets, plus A/B comparison, Randomize, and save/load for your own presets.

Does Vaporate support Apple Silicon?
